Pinewood Pallets
Wooden pallets are made from sawn wood boards and rafters, and are used to transport and store goods. They can be made from softwoods like pine and spruce, or hardwoods like oak and maple. The type of wood used depends on the intended application, and factors like budget, cargo weight, and how often the pallet will be used. Hardwood pallets are stronger and more durable, but softwood pallets are lighter and more affordable.
Wooden pallets are made in three stages:
- Tray: The boards are nailed together with sleepers
- Block assembly: The wood block or composite block is assembled with the top
The durability of a wooden pallet depends on several factors, including: The quality of the wood and other materials, Workmanship and treatment, Resistance to moisture, Resistance to wood infestation, and How well it can withstand multiple handlings.
Wooden pallets are often used to keep goods off the ground, such as food items, and can be loaded and unloaded with forklifts and pallet trolleys. They provide a strong and reliable frame that allows for specialized packaging, safe loading and unloading, and protection of goods during transit. This makes them a key part of the logistics industry, helping to ensure the secure delivery of many popular products.
There are different types of wooden pallets, including stringer pallets and block pallets:
- Stringer palletsThese pallets use a frame of three or more parallel pieces of timber, called stringers, with top deckboards attached to create the structure. Stringer pallets can have notches cut into them to allow for "four-way" entry, so forklifts can lift them from all four directions.
- Block palletsThese pallets use both parallel and perpendicular stringers to make them easier to handle efficiently.
A standard pallet size is 48"x40", with each deck board being 3 1/2" wide by 5/16" thick.
Wooden pallets can also be used for other purposes, such as making furniture like chairs, tables, shoe racks, mirrors, and bookcases.
